Suspension Girl, Shades of Pink and I had planned to catch "881" last week, but work got the better of us and we couldn't find the time to.
Shades of Pink and I eventually caught it this evening as Suspension Girl was busy. Good thing Shades of Pink managed to get there earlier to get the tickets. I think we got the last 2 tickets.
Before heading off to meet her, I had asked Birdkeeper if he wanted to watch it with us. "Oh, I've seen it already. It's really good. Will cry one you know. I bought the soundtrack also and now Alien Head sings the Hokkien songs every day." he said.
So good until buy the soundtrack. Hmm.
Can sing some more. Hmm.
Show ending its run, still full house. Hmm.
Must be quite good right?
We were so wrong lor.
We spent the entire time in our neck-ache causing seats either wondering why people were laughing at certain points of the show which we didn't find the least bit funny, or figuring out which parts of the show were for real, and which weren't. Were the laser shooting bustier getai suits that caused Mindy Ong's nose bleed supposed to be imaginary or real? And the gold-robe-donning, spell-chanting aunty-deity??? Or the showdown with more laser shooting suits and feather flicking spells between the Durians and the Papayas???
At one point, Shades of Pink turned to me and went, "That was just so bad lor."
I also say. Luckily got Qi Yu Wu. Pure eye candy walking around showing off his physique without uttering a single word.

Firsts.
"First love is always the deepest and the sweetest, or so they say."
That came from Shades of Pink's blog, coupled with this question: "Can you really forget your first love?"
I guess not, I told her. Even with the acknowledgement that you both can never be, despite the wonderful moments shared, the trials you overcame together, there will always be a special place for that first true love.
By nature of the fact that it was your first love makes every experience in that relationship a first. Which in turn makes it extra memorable and special. That special place, that special song, that particular movie, that silly quarrel, that special code that only you both knew, etc etc. So, how do you forget something like that?
Then sometimes you wonder why it didn't work out.
I've thought it over and at the end of the day, I guess, in relationships, it boils down to these scenarios:
1) Right person, wrong time. This one's really sad. But I guess with priorities differing in difference phases of life, it happens. And it makes you wonder if it would have worked out if that right person who was there at the wrong time came back again at a different time in your life.
2) Wrong person, right time. In this instance, do we end up marrying the wrong person just because the person was there at that particular moment - that phase of life where your peers are all getting hitched, relatives pose you the same "So when you getting married?" question at every gathering, and you feel that it's about time anyway. And then you settle for that person who appeared at that right moment in time.
No point wondering, I guess.

Mooncaking
The traditional ones...
The buttery crusted ones (Shanghainese)...
All made from scratch (save for the lotus paste) at tonight's baking class. This must be one class which I will be putting into practise in the coming weeks. One lesson tonight's class has highlighted to me, is the exorbitant prices that hotels and restaurants charge for this seasonal pastry. And its high-caloric contents. I mean, I knew a single mooncake contains calories that could possibly sustain me through a half marathon. But it didn't quite sink it till today, while I was kneading the pastry, and FELT how much oil and fats were in it!
I actually had fun making the mooncakes, so I'm gonna buy the ingredients and moulds and make them over the next few weekends. Perhaps I should revive the mooncake parties I used to have.
Any orders for my home made mooncakes? The shop sells moulds in all shapes and sizes. My mooncakes will probably come in Hello Kitty moulds.... :)

THE Run
The day started really early as I had to be at the "Deaf-initely No Excuses Run" by 730am. The run which got Shades of Pink and I running regularly this year.
From the Esplanade, up Sheares Bridge, around Suntec and back to the Esplanade.
6km in total.
Before I even hit the halfway mark, I was already tired. When I reached the start of Sheares Bridge, the temptation to walk set in. But there were just too many people. Couldn't afford to be so slack. So, what normally takes me at least forty-five minutes to complete, took me thirty-nine minutes today.
Shades of Pink had assigned RT and I to be the officials for the "Regular Runners" team. Basically, the officials had to be positioned at the perimeters of the group to ensure everyone stayed within the group. It was a good thing I opted to be at the back of the group as I wouldn't have been able to keep up had I been at the front or at the sides! I seriously think she put me in the wrong category.
Nonetheless, the run was fun, and for a good cause. I'm glad I managed to complete it. :)

Another Kitty Addition
The 2nd Meet-Bitch Sesh
After the last session cum farewell we had, we said we should do this again. And we did.
Tonight, the venue was at the Singapore Swimming Club. Dinner at the Palms, followed by a round of drinks accompanied by Mr Rivera's oldies at The Activity Room. Oldies. Much nicer melodies and more meaningful lyrics as compared to today's headache-causing beats and often nonsensical lyrics. And because Mr Rivera knows my name, and had gotten to know K-man's name, we were asked to pick songs. Among those we picked were "Tears in Heaven", "Wonderful Tonight" and "Don't Cry Joni". As Mr Rivera didn't have the lyrics for "Don't Cry Joni", he promised to sing it the next time I was there. It's funny how when asked to select a song, I can't, at that moment. The next time I'm there, I'm requesting for Martina McBride's "Valentine" and Colin Raye's "Love Me". I think Mr Rivera should know these. :)
Like the last session, Digital Curls, Cooking Girl, K-man, Miss Troublesome and I had a great time catching up. I hope you guys had as much fun as I did. Next time, we do the massage too! See you guys next month ya! It's gonna be a meet-cum-farewell, right? :p

Bowled Over
By several things...
My dad had just got himself a new bowling ball and was gonna try it out at the club tonight. Since it has been yonkers since I last bowled, I decided to join him just to see how I would fare.
At the bowling centre, I opened up my bowling bag which had over yonkers collected dust just sitting in the store room and realised that it wasn't my ball!
"Hey, I think I brought one of your bowling balls. This isn't mine." I said
"But that's your bag what. Nobody else uses it" my dad said.
"Maybe you used it for one of your balls? Is this yours?" I asked.
So my dad took the ball out and went, "This is yours what!"
"But mine is a dark purple 'Zone' ball, with pink and yellow inserts." I quipped.
"No la! That one was chipped so long ago, and you bought this one la," he said.
I looked at the marbled blue and orange 'Storm' ball with yellow inserts. I tried it and the inserts and the span fit. Hmmmm. How come I forgot about this ball ah?
Anyway, I ended the first game with a score of 126, followed by 148, then 158 and 172. I decided to stop at the fourth game because I didn't think my scores would keep improving at 172. ;p
But also because my thighs were aching and my toes were cramping! I never used to feel like that after a mere 4 games of bowling. I think it comes with age. Seriously. Sigh.
Besides, I'd better save them thighs and toes for tomorrow's departmental teambuilding - a whole day of treasure hunting at the beach!

Vomitting & Diarrhoeating
So I spent the whole of Tuesday doing just what my post is titled.
And then today at lunch with Cooking Girl and Perpetual Headache Man, I forgot about the doctor's instructions and had a chocolate sundae from Macs. Big mistake, but I realised only after I had ordered it. And then it looked so yummy I couldn't resist it.
And then after lunch I paid for it. :(

Beginner's Luck
Shades of Pink, I think you should materialise that Bingo date you had with me. There's really such a thing called Beginner's Luck. Trust me. I've run out of that at Bingo, so I'll think I'll just hit the gym from now on. :)
Speaking of beginner's luck, I sure hope I have it with make up tomorrow. For the simple reason that I hardly use make up, let alone own make up, coupled with the fact that I've been arrowed to do a TV clip tomorrow. This was how the conversation between my colleague and my boss went...
Boss: Do you need her to put on make up for the shoot?
Colleague: Yup. As per normal. All girls will use right?
Boss: Oh! This one doesn't use one.
I didn't know whether to laugh or to cry.
So, I need all the luck I need to not end up looking like the cast of a wayang performance.

Paper Prata
Did you know that these don't come served with curry?I didn't. It was my first time trying this today at the bedok end stretch of food stalls opposite BFC's place. BFC, Birdkeeper, Alien Head, RT and I had loads to eat, but this had to be the best.
Seriously, I always thought this was just prata that's extremely thin, so where got shiok to eat? But it's actually coated with condensed milk and sugar. Yummers. Better still with a cup of bandung or Milo Dinosaur. Right Alien Head? How was your first experience with Milo Dinosaur? ;p

Ache. Pain. Sore.
Those were the sensations I woke up to this morning. And I think it was the same for Suspension Girl cos she texted me, saying, "My whole back is aching!" then followed by "The area between my thumb and index finger hurts too!"
You see, we were a little bit too ambitious yesterday. And too hard on the upper body.
RT, BC, Suspension Girl and I headed to East Coast at 9ish in the morning for some kayaking. RT and I took the double kayak, while BC and Suspension Girl took the single kayaks. Somehow, with the double kayak, I didn't appear to be contributing much. Every inch we moved was attributed to RT's effort. Each time Suspension Girl or BC kayaked past, I would be thrown comments like, "Eh, RT, how? Tough or not? One man paddling a double kayak?" or "Purples, you must paddle also la"
Eh! I got paddle ok!
So, to prove my point, I requested to switch kayaks with Suspension Girl. We kayaked alongside her, and I slowly moved onto her single kayak. Only thing was, I decided to do so by holding onto the side of her kayak (back facing her kayak) with both hands, and move butt first onto her kayak. RT saw what was coming. But before he could say anything, the single kayak flipped, flipping Suspension Girl along with it. Needless to say, I fell into the sea too!
From then on, it was a big scramble getting onto the kayaks. And I'm sure it was great entertainment for the guys, who I know, are still laughing at it today. Well, we eventually did manage to do the switch and get onto the kayaks. Very unglamly though. Suspension Girl, I'm really sorry about the topple. Really didn't expect it you know.
Lunch was at the Lagoon hawker centre. Then BC and RT decided to go to the driving range. Suspension Girl and I joined them later and were persuaded to hit some balls. So we had a mini crash course on how to hold the club, how to stand, how to swing, which clubs to use - iron la, wood la, long la, short la - and then we hit. Airballs. For a start at least. Bleah.
So I think the aches and pains and sores we woke up with was really due to being too ambitious; doing two sports in a day. Both working the upper body no less.
I woke up with the intention to run this morning, but I just couldn't do it.

Baby Isabel(le)
Congratulations to Father and Mother Giao Gui....on the arrival of Baby Isabel(le) who has the potential of becoming Mini Giao Gui.
Now you know why I have named them such. :)
Father and Mother Giao Gui, quick decide on the spelling of the name!
Seriously, Father Giao Gui was more than eager to make up the last leg for tomorrow or Saturday's mahjong session. We hadn't included him in cos we didn't think he would be able to make it.
I looked to the wife to see if she was agreeable to him playing while she was in hospital, and Mother Giao Gui said, "Eh, you bring the mahjong table here la!"Now you know why I have named them such. :)

Gym! Finally.
So I finally made it to the gym after a long long hiatus.
Half an hour on the elliptical cross-trainer (or as some call it, the swoosh swoosh machine), 300 calories. Then I decided to do some stationary cycling. Managed only 8 minutes of it and a pathetic 30 calories. Bleah. Finished off with some weights - 3 sets of 8.
But I figure Wednesdays are good. The gym is quite empty, the machines available, and most importantly, no familiar faces, so the mouth doesn't get more exercise than it should. Then again, after so long, the usual familiar faces have changed anyway.
Let's see how long I can keep this gym regime up.
Now I've got to work on that 6km run that Shades of Pink signed me up for. As of now, I can only do 5km. 3 weeks to train for that extra 1km.

A Thousand Splendid Suns
My latest read, which I've just finished. Would I recommend it? Definitely. :)
Just as I would recommend his first book, "The Kite Runner".
So if you have time for only one book, make it one of the above.
