The $300 dinner

So this was what I had for DINNER, with the company of my WORK COLLEAGUES, on a FRIDAY NIGHT. All in the name of charity and in support of my client. So Prison Break Season 2, compliments of Oyster, had to wait.

So (from the top left in clockwise sequence), we had crab meat with cauliflower cream, duck liver soup, lamb and potatoes, cheese platter, apple pie with rum and raisin ice-cream and a praline platter. The crab meat appetiser was ok, except that there was too much shell in it. The duck liver soup was a modification of steamed egg - more solid than liquid. Not too bad though. The lamb was, er, smelly. The cheese platter was good, save for one portion of it that smelt like the lamb. Dessert was good, especially the praline platter.

Of course, we had the red and the white to complement the cheese and the chocs.

And because I'm not that much of an exotic, or rather, french cuisine person, my dinner was pretty much made up of this...

Good ole bread.

By the time the huge praline platter came, there were only 3 of us left to share it. Chocs are yummy, but not good for the waistline, so Digital Curls and I took just a bite of each type. heh.

The White Rabbit Sweet

This message exchange took place this morning after Digital Curls popped by the snack corner of the office to find something to munch on. She found this.

Digital Curls: The rabbit sweet very sticky!

Purples: Ya la. You never eat before meh?

Cooking Girl: Haha. Digital Curls, you win.

Digital Curls: The one I took didn't have the transparent paper. Think it's expired.

Cooking Girl: How can it be? I check.

(So Cooking Girl checks out one of the sweets and throws it to Digital Curls)

Cooking Girl: See? Got the paper la!

Digital Curls: Nabeh. Throw at me somemore.

Cooking Girl: Must show you that there is a wrapper what.

Digital Curls: Then I must have gotten the lousy one. It's so sticky! Luckily I got no fillings. It's sticky until the filling will come out type.

Purples: I think you took one that somebody ate and then didn't like, so wrapped it back.

Digital Curls: Lousy rabbit!

Lousy Rabbit???

A Weekend of Drooling

I don't normally drool so much over 2 days. But how can one not do so, when the weekend involves watching 17 hours of Wentworth Miller?

Catching the first season of Prison Break only now is kinda late, I know. I've heard people rant about the show, rave about this Scofield fella, but I only managed to catch a fraction of a couple of episodes of the first season while it was airing. I tend to doze off halfway through an episode. But for however long a period of the episode that I did stay awake, Wentworth never failed to charm. And each time I woke up to find the show over, I'm like "Damn! How did I fall asleep?"

Well, I didn't follow it from the start, and hence had no inkling of what the plot was about. And apart from a cute face, understanding the storyline is important too. I'm not shallow.

So over the weekend, I popped over to Poh Kim and bought the entire first season. Then once I started, I couldn't stop. The storyline's really good. And check out that drop dead gorgeous face...can stop watching meh? :)

New Addiction

The first time I had this new Snickers bar was whilst watching 300. RT was supposed to share it with me, but it was really a 80-20 share. 80% mine. I had bought it cos the wrapper said (or i thought it said) "Crunchier Bar". I've only just realised that it reads "Cruncher Bar", not "Crunchier". It's still yummy anyways. And crunchy. Filled with crisped rice, crunchy peanuts, caramel and milk chocolate.
So during lunch yesterday, I popped by Watson's and got 2 bars. 2, cos there was a promotion on. $2 for two bars. I really could have bought more, but given the little water that I drink a day, the chocolate bars would have created a totally heaty, sore-throated me. Besides, Cooking Girl and Ms Troublesome weren't sharing. So I settled for 2 bars, despite the fact that I had just stocked up on this last Friday... ...

Greek Men...

...are hot.

Did anyone watch 300? If not, go watch it and you will fall in love with Spartan men. Especially Gerard Butler, who plays the character of King Leonidas.

Then again, he is really of Scottish origin. Hmm. Men in kilts can be quite hot too. :)

Laziness, I Cannot Tahan!

Inexperience, I can understand.

Slow learner, I can teach.

New to the job, I can excuse.

Carelessness, I can accept. Sometimes.

Laziness, I CANNOT tahan.

In my line of work, I have to

- keep my cool even though I'm on the brink of losing it

- smile when that someone really deserves a frown

- make small talk, when in actual fact, a real telling-off is what that person needs

I've been really pissed off at work recently, and I've not put into practise any of the above. Especially when it comes to a certain, particular someone. So if you've been getting nothing but sarcasm from me this week and last, it's simply because: LAZINESS, I CANNOT TAHAN!

Cooking Girl's 28th

Another one of us nearing the end of the decade. But not to worry, cos I'll reach it first.

This is a belated post, but we did celebrate on the actual day (5 Mar) at Seah Street Deli. Typical huge portioned American food. Then as usual, we pigged out on desserts - bread and butter pudding, tiramisu cake and a sinfully chocolatey cake which doubled up as the birthday cake.

We had instructed the staff to serve the slice of birthday cake with a candle after the main courses as a surprise. What we ALL didn't expect was having them play the "Happy Birthday" song out loud across the WHOLE restaurant! So when the cake was served (it came from behind me), all I heard from Cooking Girl (who was seated across from me) was "Oh no! How come so loud???" The end of the song was followed by an applause from the other diners. Cooking Girl turned into a beetroot.

Honest to goodness, we hadn't planned on them doing that, but it was a nice surprise, wasn't it? :)

Anyways, Happy 28th!

Why Do I Run?

I got up extra early this morning and ran around the estate. Think I only covered a pathetic 2km.

For those who know me well, you'd know from the 2.4km runs in school that I really dislike running. Somehow though, with some help and pushing from RT, and a great pacer like Shades of Pink, I started including it in my exercise regime this year. Ok, ok for those who know me well, it's really a "feel-like-it-then-exercise" regime.

So why do I run when it isn't my favourite sport? Here are some possible reasons:

1) People have told me that it's a great way of losing weight.

2) I've been told that it helps tone the butt.

3) Some say it's a good way to work out the whole lower body.

I figure these reasons are valid, but doesn't running also bring about huge thighs? I've also heard that it's not good for the knees.

After giving it some thought, I realise that the real reason why I run is just so that I have a justification to eat more. :)

Orange Juice Factory

What happens when you are left with this many boxes of mandarin oranges AFTER Chinese New Year?

You convert the office cubicle into a mini factory and start practising for a start up business selling mandarin orange juice.

The production line comprised Cooking Girl as the Orange Slicer, Purples and Ms Troublesome as the Orange Juicers and Digital Curls as the Orange Juice Pourer.

No prizes for guessing what beverage accompanied the Subway sandwiches we had for lunch today. :)

I just hope we don't end up with diarrhoea.

My Middle Child

My middle child. Got scolded by the father for not concentrating when doing her chinese work. Fell asleep on the bus till the driver did...
