The Current Family Fad

I've noticed that recently, my cousins and cousins-in-law have developed an interest for baking. And I don't mean the simple square or round butter cakes, but fanciful ones.

Check out the last 2 birthday cakes that were home made...

Beautiful ya? They are delicious too! Unlike most nice-to-look-at-but-taste-not-so-nice cakes.

Starting and Ending Decades

Because I knew I was going to be pigging out today, I embarked on my 2nd run of the year. Think I did was worse than the 1st as I didn't complete running the route.

Pig Out 1
To celebrate my cousin, Kayestercan's entry into her next decade, the family went for a buffet lunch at Copthorne King's "Princess Terrace Cafe". From the mains to the desserts, the food was fantastic. Penang laksa, prawn noodles, roti jala, popiah, teh tarik, nasi lemak, otah, apom (banana and some flour thing dessert with some yummy creamy stuff ), nonya kuehs.....

Thanks Kayestercan, for the lunch treat! May you have a great decade ahead, with many more to come!

Pig Out 2
Then, to celebrate Vandice's last year of the current decade, Suspension Girl, Shades of Pink, BFC, RT and The Idol met at The Turquoise Room for dinner. The place is really cosy and quaint. Like a little beach house by the sea.

We ordered some wine, starters (calamari, bread with dips and portabello mushroom with crabmeat) two 12" pizza and a serving of pasta each. I think we were a little overambitious. No more space for the yummy desserts!!!! So the only person who had a dessert cum birthday cake was Vandice.

Happy Birthday Vandice! May the coming better the going! ;p

Amidst good food, wine and company, we engaged in random conversations, one of them involving Shades of Pink's subconscious habit. Big mistake. The rest of the dinner just saw her trying to catch herself at it. But it's subconscious dear, so, really, you'll NEVER catch it. We love you all the same, you know? ;p

I'm gonna catch some shut eye now. The whole day's pigging out has gotten me really tired. I'd better exercise soon. With big, curled locks and too much food, the potential of resembling Miss Piggy is quite high.

Another Extended Family Affair

After work today, Digital Curls & I headed to Royce's at Suntec to pick up some chocolates for my aunt and uncle who were celebrating their wedding anniversary today. Picked out 3 kinds of chocolates, and had a chocolate sampling session with Digital Curls while at it. :)

Dinner was at "No Signboard Restaurant" at Vivo City. Why in the world did they name the restaurant such? One of my cousins was late as she took a while locating the restaurant.

Purples: Why so late?

Cousin: This place so confusing, very hard to find! But I think it was because I couldn't find the signboard.

Haha. Very funny.

Anyways, as with the usual extended family meals, we occupied 3 tables, and had a feast. Chilli Crabs. Pepper Crabs. Prawns. Pork Ribs. Lemon Chicken. Cold Dish. Vegetables. Dessert. My aunt who resides in Melbourne was also in town, so it was pretty much the whole complete extended family - 4 generations of us. Nice.

During dinner, I realised that my aunt from Oz had just gotten her hair permed. That makes 3 of them. And it was the perm that I had wanted to do 4 months back, but was told that my hair's too short. But her hair looked the same length as mine what! I think I'll try visiting the salon again. I've tried using the curlers to get an idea of what I'd look like with curls. What do you think? Perm? Don't perm?

A Weekend With Friends and Cousins

Saturday with friends
Saturday was spent at BFC's new place as she had a housewarming party. Before we headed there, Shades of Pink had my hair done up in curls using the Vidal Sassoon ceramic curler set that she had received as a Christmas present from a client. The initial effect was pretty "auntie", but once the curls loosened out, they looked pretty good, reinforcing the fact that I should grow my hair out a little more before perming it. I didn't realise hair curlers could be such fun to play with. The last time I played with them was just last week with Ms Anyhow. This time though, because they were heated curlers, I got my ear a little burnt. It was fun nevertheless.

Sunday with cousins
Headed to the supermarket to buy ingredients for my dessert contribution for dinner with the cousins tonight. I was going to make a flan. Birdkeeper's recipe. Highly confidential and protected. I am extremely honoured that the guy has found me worthy enough to share it with me. Thanks! Everyone enjoyed it. Look! The flan smelt so good out of the oven, even the dogs couldn't wait to get their paws on it!

Dinner comprised DIY hamburgers as my cousin, Dr Mind, had a craving for them. It's pretty much like a popiah party, except that in place of popiah ingredients, you assemble parts of a hamburger together - sesame buns, succulent beef/chicken patties, tomato, lettuce, cheese, pickles, dressing etc. Check out the hamburger which Kayestercan put together!

There was also pasta, cheese & crackers and 3 different types of desserts! Blackforest cake, chocolate souffle and flan. No pics of the desserts. By then, I was already too stuffed to move and get the cam out of my bag.
